Part-Time VIA TESL Diploma Program
Next Part-Time TESL Proposed Start Date: July 21, 2008
(expected end date September 26, 2008)
The Part-time TESL Diploma Program is designed for busy people who can not study during regular day-time hours. The classroom component of the part-time program is exactly the same as the full-time program, but is taught with shorter classes (3 hours / evening) for approximately 2 months.
The present scheduled class days and times are:
Monday 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Tuesday 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Wednesday 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Thursday 6:30 - 9:30 PM
Note: Days and times are subject to change for each new program.
The Practicum must be taught done during regular classroom hours (day-time, 9:00 - 3:00). The Practicum can be done over a number of weeks, and individual schedules can be made to accommodate work commitments, etc.
1. VIA TESL Diploma / TESL Canada Certification:
The VIA TESL Program is recognized by TESL Canada and emphasizes Communicative Language Teaching (CLT). All successful applicants are eligible for the VIA TESL Diploma.
2. Requirements:
Students with a university degree and meet TESL Canada requirements for English test scores will be eligible for TESL Canada Level 1 Certification. Students who have graduated from high school or are at least twenty-five years old are eligible to take the TESL program, but will not be eligible for TESL Canada Level 1 Certification.
3. Program Objectives:
Graduates of the VIA TESL Diploma Program will be able to apply Communicative Language Teaching, learned principles, theories, strategies, and practical classroom techniques and implement them successfully in effective ESL lessons.

5. Evaluation:
Evaluation is based on attendance and participation, homework assignments, written examinations, class presentations, submitted lesson plans, and practicum results. Students scoring 80% (cumulative) or better on the evaluation criteria qualify for the VIA TESL Diploma.
6. Specializations:
Graduates of the TESL Program have the option to do a second practicum specialization in teaching business, TOEFL and TOEIC, or ESL. This is a twenty-hour program and students will receive a specialization certificate.
