Wecome to the VIA Training Centre TESL Diploma Program

Mission Statement

VIA Training Centre strives to provide the most current, practical, and internationally-recognized Teaching English as a Second Language methodologies, techniques, materials, and career opportunities in an enthusiastic and energetic atmosphere.

The Full-time Program is very interactive and practical, giving students teaching opportunities which provide teaching experience and confidence for new teachers entering the classroom, and new ideas for seasoned educators.

The Online Program has the same content as the Full-time Program and is delivered by email. Both programs have a practicum supervised by TESL Canada-certified teachers.

If you are interested in becoming an ESL teacher and taking a TESL program, please refer to the TESL Canada website (www.tesl.ca) for a list of accredited programs. If you have questions regarding a TESL program please contact TESL Canada directly, or any accredited school for further information.

Some common ackronyms for TESL are TESOL (Teaching English as a Second or Other Language, usually used in the U.S.A), or TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language, commonly used in Europe). CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) is the UK equivalent of TESL Canada certification.

Who is TESL Canada? TESL stands for Teaching English as a Second Language. TESL Canada is the only national organization in Canada that approves TESL programs in Canada.

Why is TESL Canada certification important? To become an ESL teacher in Canada or abroad, TESL Canada certification is very important. It is the only organzation that approves accreditation for TESL programs in Canada. If a program is not accredited by TESL Canada, that progam does not meet national or international standards for teaching ESL.
